CASE CONSULTATION

Who Should Attend This Course?

Participants should have professional training in counseling/ psychotherapy and currently practicing in the field as a play therapist.

Previous attendance at a training by Dr. Norton is recommended to provide a working knowledge of the style and concepts of play therapy utilized. However, all therapists who are interested in improving their skills as play therapist are welcome.

Agenda

The format will consist of case presentations by the participants. Presentations may consist of video tapes, art work, sand trays, case notes, and dynamics of the play process.

Each participant will have the opportunity to present four hours of case material for direct consultation, in addition to contributions from other members of the group.

The format will be open discussion of issues, content, process and dynamics of the cases presented. Confidentiality will be maintained on all case material presented.

Objectives

  • Provide consultative feedback for play therapy cases.
  • Explain the meaning of children’s play and how it relates to the various stages of play therapy.
  • Apply the intake information and dynamics into the treatment goals of children in play therapy.
  • Explain the symbolic meanings of the metaphors children use in their play process.
  • Recognize the signs in a child’s play which indicate different forms of abuse and trauma.
  • Describe styles of responding to children that create therapeutic change in the process of treatment.

Program Fees

The cost is $150.00 for each meeting, bringing to a total of $750.00 for the series of 5 meetings. A deposit of one session fee is required to secure a position in the consultation group. The remaining four payments of $150.00 each will be due at the beginning of each training. Your deposit and signing the registration form is committing to all scheduled sessions.

Absentee Policy

Participants who do not attend a specific date will pay for that date.

However, participants can receive individual supervision from the instructor to make up the missed individual supervision in the group.
